Reaching the Rwenzori hills

On 13 December 2025, the Kiyonga Medical Camp brought outpatient care to Buhatiro Trading Center in Bulhumbi Village, Buhatiro Parish, Ihandiro Sub-county, Bukonzo West, Kasese. The venue was chosen to reach a community where day-to-day access to care is difficult.

The report credits a team of Kiyonga and Kabagambe family members and health workers from Bwera Hospital, Kasanga PHC III and Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital.

A day of organised care

The camp registered 342 clients. The service stations took people from registration through screening and clinical review to prescriptions, dispensing and counselling.

Blood pressure was recorded for 318 clients, with 315 complete pairs; random blood sugar was recorded for 306. The report highlights the need for continuing care after the camp.

The road to Buhatiro

Rain, difficult terrain, muddy roads and tyre damage complicated the journey with staff, medicines and equipment. The photographs show both the work at the camp and the effort needed to reach it.

The illustrated report sets out the service statistics, reported findings, limitations and recommendations for future outreach.
