Remembering through care

On 5 November 2022, Paddy’s family and friends brought the community together at Nyakahya Church of Uganda for the inaugural memorial medical camp. The theme was raising awareness, treatment and prevention of non-communicable diseases in Bwera.

The camp report records 641 people attended, including adults and children. Hon. Dr. Crispus Kiyonga was the chief guest. The effort drew on health professionals, community leaders, the church, pharmaceutical supporters and volunteers.

Screening, treatment and education

The service package included blood pressure and random blood sugar checks, consultations, laboratory rapid testing, medicines, blood donation and referrals. Dr. Lawrence Baluku delivered a health talk on disease prevention.

The report records 500 blood pressure entries and 493 unique random blood sugar readings. These are different measures within the camp record and should not be added together as separate beneficiaries.

A foundation for continuing service

The report emphasised sustained awareness and follow-up beyond a single camp day. People needing further blood pressure assessment were linked to Bwera Hospital, while health education addressed prevention and continuing care.
